What specific choices can you make today to prioritize your relationship with God?
FIRST: PRAY 1 Thess 5:17 Pray without ceasing
SECOND:: READ THE WORD
Psalm 73:25-26 NIV
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
MY INTENTIONS
It is my time in this life to be free of work obligations (unless I volunteer) from raising children and from hard physical work. So I almost have too much time and too many choices which I know is a blessing but can also be yet another stumbling block to my relationship with God. Paradoxically I can be too busy to even think about talking with Jesus or in a slump of boredom where I seek some frivolous entertainment and not my Lords face.
No matter what is on my schedule there is always time to walk and talk, to worship, to study, to pray and intercede with my best friend Jesus if I make that choice.
Its about intentionality. I cannot aimlessly stroll through a day thats free of obligations hoping to just bump into Jesus. Usually I will, because I know he is always with me, but in planning our special time together each day, He is pleased and also prepares something special to give me.
But who else is also out roaming about to see who he can devour? The enemy! And he wants to spend time with me as well and not for my benefit but rather to exert his limited power to undo what My God is doing in my life.
So intention is the key word for me. Not obligation or duty or worse, legalistic blind obedience, but heart felt intention. I keep in mind that Jesus tells me to ask for protection and to stand prepared for anything each day. So when the winds blow that can take down my house I have intentionally prayed and remain in my relationship firmly established in the word of truth:
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39
